Trouble Starting the Game

Why won't Exoprimal start or run properly?

If Exoprimal isn't running properly, follow the steps below to try and resolve the issue.
1. Check the game's system requirements
Head to Exoprimal's official website and check if your system meets the minimum requirements.
Devices that don't meet the minimum requirements may experience frame rate drops or the game may not run correctly.
- Your device may be using a high-end integrated graphics chip or a brand-new integrated GPU for a laptop. Capcom did not test these devices and therefore cannot officially support them.
If you are playing on a laptop that has both a dual-GPU graphics card and an internal graphics processor, be sure to disable the internal graphics processor via the BIOS settings before running Exoprimal.
Reference your laptop or motherboard's manual for instructions on accessing the BIOS menu.
- If you are using multi-GPU settings with NVIDIA's SLI or AMD's Crossfire technology, Exoprimal may not run properly due to a false positive detected by your antivirus software. Please disable these settings if you cannot run Exoprimal.
2. Add Exoprimal's files and folders to your anti-virus software's exception list.
Some launching issues may be attributed to certain anti-virus software preventing the game executable from running. To avoid this issue, we recommend adding the following files and folders to anti-virus and firewall exception lists.
game.exe Location:
[folder of your choosing]\Exoprimal\Content\start_protected_game.exe
Note: The above paths are default paths. Please use the folder in which the above executables are saved.
For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, visit the product's official website or contact the maker directly.
3. Update Windows OS and Video/Graphics Card Drivers
We recommend updating your video and graphics drivers. Outdated drivers can create graphic-related problems, prevent the game from running, and cause a variety of other issues.
Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run and that the latest updates have been installed on your system.
If you still encounter issues running Exoprimal, we recommend performing a fresh installation of the video or graphics driver set. Doing so will delete unnecessary files and game profiles that existed on the previous drivers.
4. Update DirectX
Visit the Microsoft Support Page or the download center for details on updating DirectX or installing DirectX12.

Installing the Latest Version of DirectX (opens a new window):
<https://support.microsoft.com/help/179113/how-to-install-the-latest-version-of-directx>

DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer (opens a new window):
5. Update Windows Media Player Codec
It's possible that codecs required for playing videos with Windows Media Player may not be installed on some Windows devices. Exoprimal may not run properly if this codecs are not installed.
Download and install the Media Feature Pack from the link below.
https://support.microsoft.com/help/3145500/media-feature-pack-list-for-windows-n-editions
Codecs installed separately may create conflicts with other codecs.
For codecs other than those in the Media Feature Pack, ensure they don't run via Media Foundation.
6. Verify the Game's Cache
Try verifying the game's cache via the Xbox application. Follow the steps below to verify the game's cache:

1) Restart your computer and open the Xbox application.
2) After selecting Exoprimal, select More options (...) and then choose Manage.
3) Select Files and then Verify and repair.

There may be incomplete or corrupted files that need to be repaired even if you just finished installing the game.
Occasionally, antivirus software may identify a file necessary for Exoprimal to run as a virus. If you are having trouble verifying the game's cache, try disabling your antivirus software while playing or while running a cache verification.
